Things to consider with Lifelong Insurance
At a time when finances are increasingly tight for many people, it is easy to get distracted by insurance policies offering incredibly low premiums. However, most of the lowest priced pet insurance plans will only pay out up to a specific amount, and only for a limited period after your pet has been diagnosed with an illness or condition.
Think about the possibility of large vet bills that you will have to pay if your pet suffers an illness that goes on for several years. Lifelong pet insurance covers the most in-depth medical procedures, with much higher payout limits per year than other types of pet insurance.
Providing that you continue to pay the premiums and to renew your insurance every year, a lifelong pet insurance policy gives you complete confidence that your pet is covered for its entire life. Although the premiums on these types of policy are higher, insurers are sometimes willing to potentially pay out tens of thousands of pounds a year to help with keeping your pet healthy.
Usually, a lifelong pet insurance policy has a high level of possible payout per condition or per year. After twelve months, if your pet’s condition is not resolved, you will be able to claim for more expenses across the next year, rather than being left to make up the difference from your own pocket.
As well as lifelong insurance policies with a rolling amount payable per year per condition, some alternatives have a fixed amount of money that is payable per condition across the lifetime of your pet. It is important to check which one of these you are getting – if you choose a policy with a fixed amount per condition in the pet’s lifetime, you could find that this money is exhausted too soon.
Regardless of the type of payout plan you choose, many lifelong pet insurance plans come complete with a range of added perks and benefits. This may include access to free pet health advice lines, assistance with advertising and offering a reward for any pet that becomes lost, and even claims for dental treatment and complimentary medicines.
