The Dogs Trust Annual Awards run its 4th ceremony this week at London’s Haberdashers Hall, to celebrate and honour the relationship between man and dog. Celebrities that attended included Alesha Dixon, Lauren Socha, Britt Ekland and Amy Childs to name a few.

The most talked about award this year was the Hero Dog Award, given for acts of bravery, this years well deserved winner was Theo, a springer spaniel sniffer dog working in Afghanistan. Theo and his handler, Lance Corporal Liam Tasker set an Armed Forces record, finding an impressive 14 caches of weapons & bombs in 5 months. Sadly, they both passed away in March, Lance Corporal Liam Tasker was targeted by a Taliban sniper, with Theo suffering a heart attack hours later.

Liam’s mother Jane Duffy went up to collect the award on Theo’s behalf, receiving two standing ovations in an emotional presentation. Four other dogs were also up for the prize, which was voted for by Sun readers including a search and rescue labrador who helped in the Haiti earthquake to save lives.

Yet again another fabulous event. I was honoured to be invited again this year and meet all the fabulous dogs and hear their incredible stories. All the dogs were wonderfully well behaved. Regards Robert Stuhldreer
